Yamazaki Puncheon 2013 is aged in 480 litre oak Puncheon casks and gives a softer palate due to the slower ageing caused by the smaller spirit to wood ratio.
Nose: Ripe melon, dried apricot, waxy quince jelly, freshly cut barley/straw, vanillin oak, dough like notes, almond/marzipan.
Palate: Frangipane, apricot jam, ripe melon and ginger, freshly sawn wood, vanilla, white chocolate, french toast, egg custard, aromatic spices, goosberry. Finish: Musky white peach, apricot, ginger, runny honey, vanilla toast, sugared almonds, pear drops, spiced lemon curd, green fruit (fig and goosberry)
Elegant Speyside esque limited release from Yamazaki that was part of the same series of releases as the award winning Sherry cask 2013 edition.
